I came here to have a traditional vietnamese wedding dress made and got to meet Oanh the owner. She is such a personable individual and you can tell that building rapport with her clients is very important to her. She is VERY knowledgeable and passionate about her work. We are currently still working on my dress as the wedding isn't until April of this year, but she had no problem with the short notice and took up the project of making my dress and also my fiancé's traditional vietnamese jacket. I have no doubt that they will turn out amazing! She knows what she is doing and what she is talking about! I am really happy that we found her, and quite lucky at that. Tailors familiar with the traditional vietnamese Ao Dai are really scarce in MN. You will only find a few places that sell the clothing, who may direct you to purchase from Vietnam, Texas, California, or online but you won't find anyone that will custom make it to fit you. Again, I can't stress enough how lucky we are that we found her. I can't wait to see our items once finished. I will be sure to update once completed. So glad I found this tailor! I had a suit coat that I wanted to wear for an upcoming job interview, however the sleeves were about an inch too short because another tailor had taken them in too much a few months earlier. Not wanting to return to this tailor because of the poor job he did and his bad attitude when I brought the coat in the first time (it seemed like I was inconveniencing him bringing business to his shop) I starting searching for another tailor. Based on reviews of The Tailor Shop I gave them a call to see if they could fix my coat. Even though they were about 2 weeks out on alterations Oanh, the owner, said she would try sneak me in over the next 3 days. I brought the coat in that afternoon, planning to pick it up 3 days later. On my way home from her shop, I got a call that the firm wanted to interview me 2 days. Nuts! I called Oanh and she said she would have my coat done the next day. What service!! I picked the coat up and the sleeves were perfect. She also found some sleeve lining issues caused by the other tailor and fixed them free of charge. Lastly, even though her shop normally has a fee for express work, she didn't charge it to me, instead say 'just get the job!' (which I did). In this day, when it seems like good customer service is a on a downward spiral it was really nice to find a business that has great customer service and does quality work at a fair price. I have a new tailor for life!

About Me

Oanh Nystrom was ten years old when she learned how to sew by hand from her Grandmother. She got her first sewing machine at fifteen.

Majored with a Bachelor of Science in Costume Design and a Minor in Textiles at the University of Minnesota.

Oanh’s first job out of college was at Nordstrom’s alterations at the MOA where she gained invaluable experience as a fitter and sewer. She then became Costume Designer for a local theatre group called Theatre MU where she was the only one sewing and styling all the costumes for cast members.

They performed in local theatres, including several plays at the Ordway and also filmed a movie for PBS. Next, Oanh worked on some TV commercials as a stylist. She then moved to San Diego, New York and San Francisco to work in the fashion industry as design assistant for a total of seven years. Along the way, Oanh has designed and sewed six wedding dresses with eighteen bridesmaid dresses and some flower girl dresses.

Oanh’s hobbies includes building websites, working on Photoshop, making greeting cards, building miniatures and dollhouses and cooking. (But has little time allotted now).

Oanh is thrilled to be in the heart of Excelsior and takes great pride in her work. She cares about her clients and has high standards for detail and quality craftsmanship.
